I've been so busy with work that I haven't updated in quite a while... but I won first place in the graphics division with "The Queen's Dream" at the Rome Art Association's Membership Exhibition. The judge said my piece was "whimsical yet sophisticated, vibrant and accomplished." My other entry "The Hypnotist" got an honorable mention. :)
My digital art "The Queen's Dream" (24 x 36) has been accepted into the MWPAI Sidewalk show. This is my favorite show of the year! It runs from June 27 through July 2.
My digital artwork "Companions" 18 x 24, was accepted into the Rome Art and Community Center's Juried Regional Exhibition. The show runs from June 12 through August 2 (308 W. Bloomfield St. Rome, NY) and represents artists from 100 mile radius.
I started posting some pictures of my little clay sculptures on my personal facebook (not my art page) and ever since then the custom orders have not stopped. Since the first monkey with monkey bread custom order I have gotten orders for... a buddha, another monkey, an elephant, a chicken and a 6 inch tall purple owl. I'm done with all of them but the chicken and the owl. Here's the elephant...
Each year RACC does this "Recycled Art Challenge". I've never had a piece of art in it. It's a juried exhibition where the artist is supposed to make artwork from recycled or recyclable materials... or you can do art with the theme of recycling. Way outside of what I normally do... I give you "The Glass Balloon". Made from a burnt out light bulb, a pickle jar, a toothpaste cap and the base is a scrap piece of counter top that would have been thrown out. It was fun to create and hopefully I made it in the show.
In 2010 I did a piece of art called "The Queen Bee"... even though it's one of my older pieces, it's still one of my favorites. It was the first piece I did where the character was making eye contact with the viewer and I just like her face. So... 4 years later I decided that she needed to make another appearance. This piece is 24"x36", done in Adobe Illustrator and will be printed on canvas. "The Queen's Dream"... my new favorite. I have a feeling she'll be back again.
